Kitty sighed, floating on the surface of the pool's clear, cool water. It was midnight, not a soul in sight save for her in the pool. Lockheed, the small, purple dragon swam laps under the water, making happy keening noises. He loved the water like Kitty did. It was what helped her think, especially at night. She wasn't much of a sun bather, so her skin kept to its slightly pale complexion and she liked it that way.
At the side of the pool, her boom box played softly, her Fray CD on repeat as she drew little patterns into the water's surface while she floated on the pink, plastic float bed. She sighed and stared up at the stars, watching them twinkle and almost believing that they were moving on their own somehow.

Bobby Drake seemed to be happy as he was making his way to the pool. Being with Rogue was the best thing in the world, though, a evil was lurking just in the recess of his brain. The cure that he had locked in his drawer allowed them to be intimate, but, once it ran out they would forever remain incable of human touch. It worried him to no end and as he came to the pool he noticed Kitty floating just in the middle. Smiling he knelt by the cd player and turned it off. A light smile touching his lips as he looked over at her.
"Hey Kitty...how goes it?" Bobby yelled out over at her. She seemed so at peace, just like the time the two of them had shared a moon lit skate. Though, all good things would get wet, and seeing how tranquil it was, he was sure she would flip over and fall into the water. A light chuckle escaped his lips as he could almost picture the inevitable happening.

Bobby's voice erupted the silence and his question's answer was drowned when Kitty jerked upright suddenly, the sudden change in balance throwing her off to one side and into the pool. She kicked for the surface and choked out what she'd swallowed, her words, and a mouthful of water. She faced the side of the pool where her boom box had been shut off and she flipped her chestnut out of her face.
"Bobby," Kitty coughed again and offered a dumb smile. Of all the people in the mansion to find her, it was him. She had to admit somewhere that she'd avoided him for awhile. Rogue's glare at her in the halls had nicely noted that they were still together...somehow. And Kitty wasn't welcome. "It goes...well, it went fine until you scared the crap out of me." Lockheed chuckled from the side and swam back under. "And you? How are things with Rogue?" She knew the answer, Kitty had just hoped it wasn't so.

Bobby chuckled loud as he saw her fall off her water like bed. Kitty never did have balance, he noted remembering their skating session. When she asked about things with Rogue he didn't really know how to answer that. Getting up he walked over to where she was and looked up at the night lit sky. The moon was half its usual glory and the stars were shining like they were mocking him. Shaking his head he sighed and knelt down by the pool edge.
"Things have been great, but, I somehow feel things are going to be bad soon. I sort of got my hands on this vial of the cure that someone had dropped off for the Professor. I offered Rogue a solution to our intimacy problems, but, once it is gone we'll fall into that same rut we had before. I really love her, but, the way she is when she can't touch...it makes her seem distant almost unreachable at times. I'm sorry to unload this on you." He clasped his hands together and knew he couldn't really talk to Rogue about this, as, he was sure it would only cause that feeling of tranquility to slip away.

Kitty shook her head, swimming to the pool ledge where Bobby was. "Hey, it's no big deal, really. I'm your friend, that's what I'm here for." Even though it stabbed her to imagine them together. "So, this syrum, when it goes out...Miss Hyde returns distant and ignores you again. I don't mean to be rude, Bobby, but, honestly, what does that say of a relationship? If it only works under strict conditions. I understand Rogue's issue, but...it's hurting you to try for such an empty shell. I know you're hoping for something to change and she'll just be alright after it wears out, but..I don't think it will."
The beads of water dripped down her face as she sighed. Seeing Bobby in pain hurt her, but it had always kind of been this way. She'd seen them flirting long ago and knew what would become of it. "When she goes distant...it's as cold as your ice.." She looked up at him, locking her brown eyes with his blue ones. "Isn't it?"

Bobby didn't really know, to be honest. Rogue had wanted them to work, and thought that he had wanted the physical contact and she thought it would better her life without the powers. For a while it did work, and then, she sank into that misery that takes most of them thinking of life and where they fit in it. Rogue was hurting when she wasn't like anyone else, she had even left the school once, and, he didn't really understand why and when he asked around they just said she was determined and sad. Bobby sighed and wondered if Rogue would go back to her usual way once the cure was gone for good?
Bobby stared into her brown eyes and smiled weakly. "I think so, then again, Rogue is Rogue, she has never tried to be anyone else until the cure was created. I just don't know what to do, what to say to her. I thought the cure would bring us closer...can I be wrong?" Bobby was kneeling by the pool so close to Kitty he didn't realize how close the two of them were, or how close their lips were.

Kitty felt Bobby's warm breath against her lips and lost her focus. They'd been so close to kissing after their skating that night, but something in Bobby had reminded him or what was important to him and he'd pulled back from her. Rogue loved him, Kitty knew that. And Bobby loved Rogue, so why were they sharing breath by the pool?
She was a decent girl, a good friend. But Kitty had never done anything for herself, she just couldn't bring herself to do it. Especially when that something was what she couldn't have- Bobby.
Kitty bit her lip and hadn't noticed as Lockheed tip toed up behind Bobby, his wings flapped open and he shoved Bobby hard with one scaly foot.

Bobby was breathing hard as he was staring into Kitty's large brown eyes. Something about this just didn't seem right, as it was, he was with a girl he loved, Rogue. Though, when her powers came back they would be back to just holding hands through gloves. This was all so confusing and if he didn't pull back from here something would be done that could never be taken back.
Bobby knew Kitty was thinking the same thing, her body was afloat in the pool and she seemed to be considering just keeping her distance. Ok...I just go to pull back and then just walk away, simple really.
That is when Bobby felt someone, or something push him from behind. Losing his balance he swayed his arms about and flew forward, it was only then his lips crushed into Kitty's as he fell onto her in the pool.

Kitty saw Bobby lose his balance and the flash of Lockheed's purple wings before something warm and soft pressed against her lips. Bobby's lips were so soft and inviting, Kitty forgot the rest of the world. Why had they not kissed sooner? It felt so right when it happened, all the other issues seemed petty now.
But when Kitty went to breathe in the fresh scent she knew to be Bobby's, water flooded her lungs. She coughed and inhaled more water. The force of Bobby's fall sent them sprawling deep into the pool. Kitty's head collided with the hard tile of the pool flooring and black spot blossomed across her vision. The last thing she saw was Bobby underwater, framed by her floating chestnut hair.

Bobby could not stop the inevitable, and when his lips pressed up against Kitty's, well, he didn't feel guilt ridden by it. Instead he had thought to kiss her more, that is until the two of them fell deep into the poo's water. Bobby swam about and watched as Kitty reached the bottom of the pool, she seemed so...oh no! Bobby realized she had lost consciousness and if he didn't act soon she would drown. Luckily he knew how to survive under water due to his element of ice.
Kicking his legs he wrapped his arms around her waist and began to pull her up to the surface. Placing her body on the tile he stared down at her wet body. "Kitty...breathe dammit breath!" Pressing down on her chest he did it a few times before checking her chest for a heart beat...nothing. So he then opened her mouth a bit and pressed his body onto hers a bit to breathe air into her lungs. He repeated this trying to save her.

The room was black, empty. Kitty was floating on it, like a small speck amongst the stars. It was peaceful here, soft and quiet. She felt freer than she'd ever been in her life. But she felt like she was forgetting something, however important it may be.
'Kitty, go back.'
She jumped.
'Jean?' She couldn't speak, she didn't have a body. But she'd heard Jean's voice, she was almost sure of it.
'Bobby and the X-Men need you. Breathe.'
Something shoved hard onto her chest, almost bruisingly. She felt a ghostly touch to her lips and then another blow to the chest.
Jean's face exploded in front of her, surrounded by fire. 'BREATHE, DAMMIT, BREATHE!'
Kitty choked up the mass of water and coughed, blinking the water from her eyes. The black abyss was gone, the stars stared back at her, and Bobby's worried face. She blinked hard and sat up, Lockheed at her feet and Bobby at her side. The memories rushed back to her. The water, their kiss, Bobby's lips soft against hers.
She glanced apologetically at Bobby. "Why do I always have clutzy moments around you?" She coughed again, ignoring the memory of Jean's voice hollering at her from the abyss. She stared at Bobby's ice-blue eyes, she bit her lip. "So much for a first kiss, huh?"

Bobby was desperate, he didn't want to lose Kitty after this. To die from a pool drowning that was his fault, this would be bad for him. Breathing air into her lungs again he waited to see if she would come back, just yearning to see her brown eyes again. Time passed and he could see his water resistant watch saying it was a good three minutes since they had gone into the pool. Dammit, he thought, if this happens how will I ever become a good X-Men?
It was then that he saw her spit up water and a sigh of relief coused through his body. I must've been holding my breath longer then I thought, he realized as he could see color return to his skin. He laughed lightly as she joked about clumsy moments, and yeah, they did seem to happen a lot with her. Though, something seemed to jump inside him.
Lifting her head up slightly he pressed his lips against hers and kissed her for a bit. There was no denying it, this time it was of his own action.

Bobby's blue eyes seemed to take on a sort of hunger and determination just before he captured her lips with his once more. So it was no accident, he had wanted that kiss maybe just as badly or more than she did. As his lips took hers, she couldn't help but notice the way her body sought the shelter of his. She leaned up against him, hands slipping up around his neck to sift her fingers in his short, brown hair. Her bare knees hurt against the rough cement by the pool, but she didn't care. All she could feel and taste was purely Bobby.
Bobby, whom belonged to Rogue. Kitty gasped and pulled away, shaking her head, a hand to her forehead. Guilt settled low in her stomach like a harsh anger. "Rogue, you love Rogue, Bobby." Maybe he was starved from such little love as Rogue could give? No, it wasn't Bobby. Kitty wasn't one to fight for what she couldn't have, and Rogue was a girl with few happinesses. Why would Kitty take that away from her? The one thing that Rogue could have, stolen away by someone, and Kitty for that matter? No. It was wrong, morally wrong.
So why did her lips still tingle for Bobby's? Why did her hands ache to touch him again. She'd spent so much of her life like the ghost she could become, a wallflower that slipped away in the shadows. Why couldn't she have Bobby for her own?
She turned to look at Bobby, her large, brown eyes scared and wanting answers. What did this mean? Where did they stand now?

Bobby had enjoyed the feel of her hands in his hair, the feeling of their lips tingling against each other in passion. Though when she pulled away confusion entered his blue eyes and then she said her name. Rogue, the girl who he loved, how could he do this to her? Rogue had been through so much, and he was doing an act that would forever shatter what they have. Though, he couldn't deny the feelings he had for Kitty.
That night the two of them had been skating, and, the closeness was so crucial to him in some parts. Staring down into her brown eyes he knew that this act was wrong, and, he should just walk away, say his farewell and say that it could've been, but she was too late. No, he thought that sounded too harsh and it would forever just be a bleak reminder of what kind of person he was. Sighing he realized something big was about to happen and he could not sway from what he did next.
"Kitty...I know you want this," he said, "and I know that my love is eternally up in the air with Rogue. But...I can't deny the feeling I get when I'm around you, or simply put, the way that kiss meant a lot. You can't deny what you want Kitty, so, ask yourself what do you want to do with these feelings? Tell you what, I'll let the decison rest with you."
Bobby slowly picked Kitty up and set her on her feet. He then winked at her as he began to walk away from her...going out of here would mean it was over. It is up to you Kitty, he thought, what are you going to do now?

Kitty watched Bobby's back as he walked away. Emotions stirred in her like a tornado. "Oh my god," She muttered, Lockheed nuzzling her ankle. "Why didn't he let me drown?"
She wanted to make him hers, to try a relationship with him like she'd wanted from that night on the pond. But she'd been too afraid to take the step she wanted to. She'd known where it would lead. She didn't want to make that mistake again, or was it a mistake? He was happy with Rogue, for awhile. And if he left Rogue for her...Kitty could just see Rogue's ungloved hand wring the life out of Kitty.
Kitty looked down and found herself half-phased into the cement. She focused, resurfacing and began pacing. She wanted Bobby for her self. So why wouldn't she take him when he offered it to her? Because she was an idiot. She shoved her palm against her forehead angrily, chestnut hair cascading along her shoulders with the movement.
