-Real Name: Noriko Ashida
-Code Name: Surge
-Faction: New Mutants
-Age: 16-17
-Date of Birth: N/A
-Height: 5'7"
-Weight: 137 lbs
-Physical Description:Physical Description: This young Japanese woman stands a couple of inches taller than five and a half feet. The most shocking feature one might notice is her electric blue hair which is kept short, its length ending near the nape of her neck and styled in a slight angular cut. Her long bangs are pushed off to the side lest they threaten to hide her dark brown almond shaped eyes. Her facial features are delicate; she has a small nose and thin lips that are done up with gloss. Her high, well defined cheek bones compliment a small chin.
Everyday Clothes - Her clothes today are simple. She wears a snug fitting light green t-shirt that shows off her lithe, athletic form and modest curves as well as a slight viewing of her pierced navel. This is worn with a pair of regular blue jeans, unadorned with any form of a belt. The cuffs of the pants are pulled over a set of black workmen’s boots that show minor signs of scuffing on the highly polished material. But the most interesting part of her outfit isn't her clothing at all, but the large metal gauntlets that cover not only her hands but the entirety of her forearms as well. The gauntlets are more than a little clunky, with metal tubing near the elbows and thick plating around the hands. Despite this, they appear to allow her complete flexibility and freedom of movement.
Uniform: The uniform Norkio wears consists of a gold and white colored top with large grey pants. The top is sleeveless, in a halter fashion, with a collar that fits snuggly against her neck. The gold is the prominent color, which then forms an ‘X’ shape over an angular cut of white fabric. The top shows off a great deal of her midriff. Against the breast bone area is a black and blue circle, with a black ‘X’ in the center. In contrast to the top, the pants are kept loose, held up with a thin belt with a buckle that also holds an ‘X’ insignia on it. The pants are of a grey hue, with large white patches on the knees formed in the same ‘X’ pattern. On her feet are white and gold boots whose large gold buckles hold a metallic shine. Along with this uniform are the large metal gauntlets she must always wear.
-Personality:
Forward and strong-minded, along with having a determined and independant personality, Nori often goes head to head with either those in power despite their age, her superiors and especially her piers and team mates disagreeing or taking charge. In many occasions she almost gets herself into trouble, from almost starting a full out fight between herself and Hellion after he simply insulted Prodigy's baseline status after M-Day, along with challenging Cyclops' choices for her team and for the school itself. Surge is also a vocal feminist, as quickly demonstrated when she was roomed with the shy and conservative Dust. Overall, Nori is a very loyal and trustworthy person, though quick to challenge authority and pick a fight if she needs to. She'll do anything for a friend and when placed in charge of New X-Men, she felt a considerable amount of responsibility placed upon her, and constantly pushed herself to do better and protect her teammates and friends, no matter the cost. It was also mentioned that Surge did not desire to be the leader of the New X-Men and she does not actually desire to be placed in a position of power.
-Powers: Noriko has the ability to absorb and project electrical energy. At all times Noriko subconsciously absorbs electrical energy from any power source in the nearby vicinity. Generally this energy transfer is invisible, but drawing in large amounts of energy at once can sometimes manifest visibly as electrical energy arcing into her body. While Noriko cannot actually be injured by electricity (EG, she cannot be electrocuted), she can be overloaded with it and by it. Since Noriko's body is constantly taking energy in, if she doesn't discharge it from time to time she begins to overcharge. When she is carrying an excessive charge it begins to manifest itself in a number of ways; thinking too fast, speaking and moving too fast all common symptoms (though carrying an excessive charge could actually be a benefit in rare cases, as thinking extremely quickly would make it hard for a telepath to read her thoughts). If she continues to absorb energy without discharging it while she is in a state of overcharge, at some point she will discharge all the electrical energy she currently has stored in her body.
Noriko's electrical powers have two primary uses. The first is that she can project blasts of electrical energy over large distances. These blasts have all the same properties as a lightning strike, in so much as that they carry extremely large amounts of electricity as well as having a large amount of heat generated at the point of impact. There is also an element of concussive impact to her blasts as well. Lastly, she can use her electrical abilities in any other way that electricity could normally be used. Examples of this are powering any electrical device, recharging batteries, welding, providing light or other such things. A note of interest is that nearly all of Noriko's electrical displays are colored blue, as opposed to white or yellow. It is assumed that this is a factor of her mutant ability, as normally the color of electricity is influenced depending on which gases are in the air it's passing through.
The second use that Noriko's abilities provide her is the ability to move and think at incredibly fast speeds, as well as enhancing her reaction times as well. Noriko is capable of reaching speeds of up to three hundred miles an hour, with the ability to react quickly enough to avoid running into anything at such speeds. Whenever she's moving at super speed she leaves a large blue electrical trail in her wake. It is possible that someone following behind her could be harmed by this trail, as it lasts for several seconds before dissipating.
-Weaknesses: Noriko has a number of weaknesses that relate to both her powers and her personality. In relation to her powers, if Noriko is doused with water while not in complete control of her abilities (IE, wearing her gloves), all electricity currently stored in her body violently discharges as she effectively 'shorts out'. This process is extremely painful and can often render her unconscious or unable to act for short periods of time. By absorbing too much energy (by making a closed circuit or purposefully drawing in excess electrical energy) and discharging it in a short period of time, Noriko can tire herself out. In terms of her mental condition, Nori has a number of flaws inflicted on her by her extremely strict upbringing. Nori tends to have a problem with most authority figures, and doesn't much like anyone who tries to control her or oppress her, and she sometimes speaks out harshly to those people who allow that to happen to themselves (or if she perceives it that way). She sometimes displays a 'loner' attitude due to the betrayal she suffered at the hands of her parents, something that has made it difficult for her to trust people. Lastly, while she is in exceptional physical condition, she's susceptible to the same sort of injury that any normal human is (save for being harmed by electricity).
-Skills: Surge is a native Japanese speaker who speaks English fluently, with little trace of an accent.
-Equipment/Weaponry: Power Gauntlets: which allow her to regulate intake and release, which minimizes her problems with her ability
- Relatives: Seiji Ashida (father), Suki Ashida (mother), Keitaro Ashida (brother)
-History: Born in Tokyo, Japan, where her family still lives. She was close to her brother, Keitaro, but she ran away from home when she was thirteen-years-old, after her powers manifested; she claimed that her father "doesn't believe in mutants." How she came to the United States is unknown, but she was living homeless on the streets of New York when, four years later, she went up to the Xavier Institute gates - only to be turned away by student Hellion for being homeless.
They eventually found her buying drugs, and assuming that was what was causing her to go out of control, Sofia blew the capsules away. In reality, it was the other way around, and without the pills, Surge completely lost control of her powers. Between Wallflower's powers, and the fact that she was mostly discharged by that point, they managed to subdue her and take her back to the X-Mansion. There, Beast designed gauntlets that could regulate her absorption of ambient electricity, and that she could discharge through/into as required to prevent further mental overloads - to her less-than-complete gratitude.
