Nasty? Then again, Derek’s ability does cause many to hurl or worse. “Yes, I suppose the professor wouldn’t be so persistent of me staying unless my abilities weren’t a threat to begin with.” Derek thought about it more and he concluded that he mine as well show Pyro his abilities. If there were indeed dark days on the horizon it would only be a matter of time before the others got to see what he can do. “I suppose I will demonstrate this ability under the condition that you tell no one of it. In fact, if anyone asks, just tell them I am human. I don’t want the students here to be prying into my personal life or leaving the school.”
Derek then pulled out a small flower. He then took his right gardening glove. “You see, the ironic thing with being the gardener here is the fact that I can never touch any of the plants I grow. The moment Derek’s right hand touched the flower it began to wilt and die. The reason why I’m so tired is because I’m always restraining myself. If I were ever to lose the restraint, then more than a petty flower will wilt away that is for sure. I have the ability to cause sickness and even death if I am not careful.”
Derek quickly placed his glove back on. “So tell me, if I were to act like the way you do. How do you think everyone in the mansion would fair?”

To John's surprise, the Asian relented and offered to show him what he could do. Under the condition that he wouldn't tell. The fire mutant nodded. "Sure... your secret is safe with me." He was still kind of thrilled to have come across someone here who didn't really belong either, finally someone he could relay to, unlike all those X-people here...
Curiously he observed Derek taking off the glove and touching the plant. "Oh", he just said when he saw the flower die immediately. His eyes moved from the dead flower to Derek's face, back, and back again. "So... if you touch something living... that's it?" Sounded a bit like Rogue. But if it was about restraint... "Or is it more of a mental thing?" If it was the second, this guy had indeed a pretty nasty power.
Pyro smirked. "I don't think they would be a big fan of yours at the mansion... I'm restraining myself too, though. What you've just seen before was me, blowing off steam after 24 hours of restraint. I just need that to stay sane, you know..."

Derek chuckled a bit. If only his ability was by touch. “Not exactly by touch per say. This is me suppressing my abilities. If I do not suppress them, then everything around me will have that same effect as the flower. My abilities are not bounded by mere touch. But the fact is, if I do not restrain my abilities then the whole mansion may get a good dose of the plague with little action on my part. In theory, if I really wanted I could take a stroll down downtown and wipe out half of the population by just being in the same area as I was without being a caught since it is just me taking a casual stroll like everyone else downtown.” Derek explained. It was odd. Originally, Derek only meant to show a portion of his abilities, but as he explained further about it abilities it felt like a weight was being lifted. Keeping such a big secret from the others had made me hold up a lot of information he wanted to say but could never in fear of breaking the Professors rules.
Derek gave a nod at Pyro’s response on restraint. “Well, you see. I have to restraint my abilities for days on ends and to be honest it isn’t fun. It feels as if I’m holding my breath. Now imagine holding your break for a week while working in the sun to make a garden all nice just for someone to come by and burn down a few of your plants. You get the idea.” It was safe to say Derek’s tolerance, no matter how calm, was very limited more of the time. He would sometimes yell at the students for tramping the flowers even if they didn’t respect him since he was “human”.
Derek looked at the sky. It was already around lunch time now. Meaning most of the students would be heading out of lunch and the garden was always a nice place to eat. “It seemed that lunch is about to commence. I better get ready. I hate it when they start littering.” Derek slowly got up as if he was an old man. Getting was getting a bit more tiring lately.

"Jeez, you're quite the monster, huh?" Pyro was visibly impressed, he couldn't help it. That guy was a serious threat, no wonder the professor kept him out of the way. He could wipe out whole cities by just... being. Still, it was, for Pyro's taste, a too discreet ability - nothing to show off whatsoever. Definitely difficult to handle for someone with John's character.
"Yeah I can imagine... it sucks. Don't you ever... get tempted to just let go? I know I would. If a jerk came along, burning down my flowers...", he smirked, talking about himself this way. Also, he appreciated the other guy's openness, obviously not something he usually did. Being an outsider at the mansion, he felt a strange kinship to the Asian, despite the fact that they probably had very different values and ideas about things.
Then Derek got up, apparently wanting to get back to work. "Well, if you want me to help... you know, I can make them not litter... and I'm the bad guy anyway...", he grinned.

Derek smiled. “Yes, there have indeed be times were I feel like just letting go and allow the world to just deal with it. But, then I remember why I am here in the first place. Besides the Professors protest of me staying, I am also trying to develop my control of this power. Hopefully one day it would not be a burden anymore to hold back. I think of my current state as fighting addiction. Sooner or later your body will just have to cope with the fact that sending out waves of viruses isn’t the way to go,” he explained. Then students started entering chatting about their personal life and such. It was then he heard of Pyro’s offer.
“No thank you, that is not necessary. I prefer to have my garden intact along with everything else by the end of the day. Besides, my job for the day is pretty much done. If they do liter, I’ll just get one of the students in detention to clean it up. The staffs at this school do encourage community work after all, especially for the troublemakers.” Derek then placed all of his gardening tools into his basket. “I’ll be back in a bit. I just need to put a few items away” Derek quickly walked off to where the shed was and placed all the items back to where they belong. That included his gardening clothing. He quickly changed his shirt and gloves for something more comfy.
It only took around five or so minutes before he came back without his gardening apron and gloves. Instead he had on a grey hooded sweater with a pair of black gloves. He still had his semi dirtied up jeans on but Derek didn’t really care. “So did I miss anything?”
It was indeed nice to be able to share his secrets people for once. It didn’t make him feel so alienated as before.

Pyro doubted that he'd have the necessary self control to handle himself the way Derek did. Also, if he imagined having grown up with his power instead of fire..., he'd probably have killed his parents and most of their little village without realizing what was happening. Not that that would have been a loss (Pyro hated his parents) but... it would have made everything much different and probably more complicated than it already was.
The fire mutant watched the students walking by, some of them completely oblivious of their presence, some of them throwing them curious or skeptical looks. Most of the kids hadn't been here when he was still at the school. But he had learned quickly enough that he had a bit of a reputation even with those that didn't know him. Which, of course, didn't disturb him in the slightest. "Whatever you say, man...", he replied when Derek declined his offer and left for a few minutes, leaving John sitting there in the garden among the flowers, watching students. He lit himself a cigarette and observed quietly. Occasionally he threw glances back when he saw people look at him, and he barely avoided saying 'boo' to one of the girls who seemed seriously worried to see him there.
Then Derek returned, looking less goofy now without his apron and gardening tools. "Not really. They're behaving impeccably so far, I've expected nothing else from students at this school...", he smirked, remembering some of his misbehaviors at the time. "Well, what else do you do here, when you're not gardening? Obviously you're no student, you're not part of the X-Men... doesn't it get terribly boring?" Pyro also wondered if Derek was part of the plan against Apocalypse...

“Boring? Sometimes it does get boring staying here. I sometimes head out as well. The Professor trusts me enough to allow me to head out every once in a while,” he answered. He never really thought about staying here as boring. Then again, he never was really the kind to look for adventure. “Usually, I would also assist any of the staff members here as well.”
“Anyway, I think I’m going to head out for today. There are a few things I was supposed to pick up downtown,” he lied. In fact, he was planning on meeting someone on a personal matter. Something he wanted to keep hush hush from everyone at the mansion.

Pyro listened and took in that Derek occasionally assisted with the staff. Well, then he was pretty close to the X-Men after all, in a way... Oh well. He finally nodded. "Sure, no problem." He got up now and started to move back towards the mansion. "I'll see you around then...", he said with a last glance back to the Asian.
He had stuff to do as well. Mainly talk with Magneto to see what would be his next task to prepare the students for the battle against Apocalypse. Hopefully there was some fight training involved somehow, that guaranteed at least a little bit of fun.
But he couldn't help but be pleased that he had met Derek who seemed to be an outsider as well. A different kind of outsider maybe but still...
