For the second time in a day, Lorna's sweater caught the brunt of Abby's tears. Had it only been just that afternoon that she'd run into this girl inside a cafe, dodging reporters and various paparazzi? It seemed as if it were a life time ago. In the course of the last twelve hours or so, she'd helped Abby get away from the media, had met the infamous Tony Stark, had been asked out by said infamous man, had gone to a bar and met his “partner” in a way, had been attacked by vampires, had rescued Abby, again, from more vampires and had told off one of the hottest men in the world and was back to consoling his daughter who'd managed to worm her way into Lorna's heart already.
It was no wonder she was exhausted.
It was possible she'd dozed off a time or two while holding Abby, but there was always staff that came in and disturbed what should have been a quiet time for the girl. She had no idea how the girl had taken her words and twisted them around in her head. Although she wasn't a trained psychologist by any means, and wasn't interested in being such, she still felt like she was maybe getting somewhere with her.
That was until she'd asked Abby if she wanted to go home and the girl practically panicked about being taken to Tony's penthouse.
With a small sigh, she tilted Abby's head up to face her and looked into her dark eyes. In that moment, she was able to see traits of the stubborn Stark man inside the girl. “Abby, I can't take you anywhere but your home. If I take you to mine, your father could come after me for kidnapping and I do not have the means to fight him on that. No matter what you say, he could put me in jail for a very long time,” she explained to the girl.
“Besides, you heard him. He doesn't want you to go away and you shouldn't. It is important that you two are together, to work through this rough patch and learn how to live with each other. It's going to take time and effort but I know it will be okay before you know it,” she added. Was she talking to a brick wall? Possibly. Although she did mean everything she was saying. They needed time. Time to get to know one another and be together, alone, just the two of them. Lorna didn't want to be a substitute parent. She wanted to be Abby's friend but Tony had to take on the role of parent.

Abby let herself be guided to lift her head by Lorna and looked into her green eyes. She didn’t want to go home and be alone in a place that she would practically be imposing on her father. She nodded her head in understanding at Lorna when she mentioned that if she were to take her anywhere else, her father would most likely charge her for kidnapping. She swallowed her fear and nodded her head again in understanding.
”Besides, you heard him. He doesn't want you to go away and you shouldn't. It is important that you two are together, to work through this rough patch and learn how to live with each other. It's going to take time and effort but I know it will be okay before you know it,”
She swallowed hard, and hoped her friend was right. She then looked up at her, and opened her mouth to say something, and then closed it again. She repeated the actions again, and finally on the third time she decided to say what she needed to say. ”I don’t know the codes to get in the penthouse. And Daddy had already warned me about hacking into it… I might be able to get Jarvis to let me in, but he’ll most likely tell him that I’m there… Unless you know someone who is better with security protocols than I am…” She rambled on, trying to think of what to do. However thinking thoughts like that was starting to give her a headache, and her head injury isn’t helping matters much…

She had to think this through. She wasn't lying to Abby when she said that Tony could prosecute her for kidnapping but she hadn't been entirely truthful, either. He could also get her if she even stepped foot outside the hospital with the girl and honestly, Lorna wouldn't blame him. Not after all he'd been through with her so far in the early days of fatherhood. Most dads had the opportunity to get to know their children before the teenage years hit. They had years to develop that relationship. Not Tony. It had been thrust upon him with the death of Abby's mother and now he had to cope with it. That couldn't have been easy at all.
Continuing to stare down at her, she replied to Abby, “He's going to know where you are, Abigail. It's his right. No matter what you believe, what you think, he does care about you, probably loves you.” Then she gave the girl a smile and added, “How can he not? I've known you for half a day and you've managed to have an impact on my life. He's had longer with you.”
She pulled away from Abigail and pulled her cellphone out of her pocket. Flipping it open, she went to press the numbers she knew by memory then frowned at the phone. With a sigh, she shut it back up and threw Abby a helpless look. “One day, someone is going to invent a cellphone that I can't accidentally fry,” she told the girl with a sheepish smile.
Getting completely off the bed, she walked over to the phone that was in the room for patients to use. She didn't trust the connection, of course, but dialed it anyway. The minute the other line was picked up, she said, “I need to have a private conversation with you.” Then she hung back up.
Looking over at Abby, she smiled as Jean joined her inside her head. Maybe she could have mentally screamed loud enough for the redhead to notice her but then it was likely that every psi-sensitive mutant for a hundred miles would have heard her as well. Lorna walked to the window as she spoke with Jean and quickly told her what was going on. By the time they were done with the conversation, Jean was halfway to New York to get them.
Turning back to Abby, she said, “One of the people I live with is coming to help us check you out of here. She's a doctor, her name is Dr. Grey and she can help not only convince the staff that you are better off at home but under her care. As for getting into the penthouse, I think asking Jarvis nicely is the best way to go about doing that. What do you think?”

In a very much Stark like manner, Abby brought both hands up to her face and had both of her thumbs resting on her chin to have both index and middle fingers to her forehead. She then began to rub the side of her head hoping to ease the pain that was steadily increasing as her mind continued to think down her previous path of thought. The wound on the back of her head started to throb as well, and her face portrayed the pain she was starting to feel because of it.
She watched and slowly nodded her head her friend explained that her father would know where she is, and that he cares and probably loves her. She also didn’t know that she had wormed her way into her friend’s life, and she didn’t even know it. She then watched as her friend attempted to make a call on her cell phone, to only discovered that it was fried. Then walk over to the in room phone, to make a phone call to someone. As she waited for her friend to return her attention back on her, she thought about designing a phone for the green haired mutant to use. However, she didn’t get too much farther before her head hurt too much. She filed the idea away for later.
“One of the people I live with is coming to help us check you out of here. She's a doctor, her name is Dr. Grey and she can help not only convince the staff that you are better off at home but under her care. As for getting into the penthouse, I think asking Jarvis nicely is the best way to go about doing that. What do you think?”
Abby looked up to Lorna as the woman spoke and finally nodded her head in resignation. ”I think that would be best. And if you want, I can see about getting a phone for you that you can’t fry…” She answered still rubbing her temples in a feeble attempt to ease the headache that continued to build inside her head.

The shorting out of her cellphone could have happened at any time during the day but she had a feeling it had been when she'd lost her temper with Tony. It made sense, several other pieces had been burnt out as well. She didn't use the thing too much, simply because she went through them at an alarming rate. Yes, she had control over her powers, could do some rather magnificent things with them if truth be told but she was still an emotional woman. Sometimes, she just let things go a bit too much and anything electronic that happened to be around at the time suffered.
She finished her mental conversation with Jean, who'd been rather surprised that she'd gone to her for help, and turned her attention back to Abby. She frowned as she finally focused on the girl's face, the way it was contorted in pain and the way her fingers were attempting to massage the temples. The pain meds had to have worn off by then and if Jean wasn't on her way, Lorna would have called for a nurse.
When Abby said she'd try to get her a phone that she couldn't fry, Lorna gave a soft chuckle. Sitting back down on the bed, she placed her fingers on Abby's temples and replaced where the girl had been massaging. Taking over that simple act, she replied, “That is very sweet of you but right now, I only want you to worry about getting better. Dr. Grey will be here very soon and she can do wonders for the pain you are feeling.”
Lorna really tried to keep her voice low and soothing, to get the girl to relax so that when Jean did get there, she'd be able to jump right in and check things out. A small commotion could be heard from outside the room and she had to bite back a smile as she sensed a familiar electromagnetic signature. No matter how many times Jean had died and come back to life, she still felt the same to Lorna. And knowing the redhead, she was out there giving the doctors hell. No matter how skilled they were, they couldn't compete with a telepath who could learn each and every one of their skills in the time it took to tie one's shoes.
Soon enough, the door opened and there stood Phoenix. It was impossible to tell she'd just rolled out of bed and had flown to the city.
Phoenix
Jean gave Lorna a small smile then approached the bed with Abby's chart in her hands. “Hello, Ms. Stark,” she greeted the child quietly, smiling at her. “I'm Dr. Grey-Summers and I'm a friend of Lorna's. She told me about the night you've had and she wanted me to make sure that everything is as okay as the doctors here seem to think it is. Is that okay with you?” she asked the girl.
If there was anything that Jean excelled at, it was bedside manners. No matter what had happened in her life, what she'd done or had gone through over the nine months or so, she still loved being a doctor and helping people heal. How Lorna had got mixed up with the Starks, of all people, Jean didn't know but it wasn't terribly surprising. For the entire time she'd known the woman, Lorna had a habit of finding people who needed her.

It wasn’t long before her eyes closed again to fight off the throbbing in her head, and that someone’s fingers had replaced her own. Abby risked opening her eyes and looked up to see Lorna sitting on the bed next to her, doing the job of attempting to ease her throbbing headache. She surprisingly was able to listen to her friend say that her other friend was on their way, and that she only wanted her to get better. What her green haired friend didn’t know was that she already had half the design in her head, and was in her to do file. She then smiled weakly as Dr. Grey could do wonders for her pain.
Her friend’s voice was soft, soothing, and comforting and she surprisingly started to relax. And allowed herself to release the tension in her body that seemed to have taken root, god only knew when. However it wasn’t long before a small commotion could be heard outside her room, and her tension returned. The door opened and a pretty redhead entered the room, with what she guessed was her medical chart in hand.
“Hello, Ms. Stark, I'm Dr. Grey-Summers and I'm a friend of Lorna's. She told me about the night you've had and she wanted me to make sure that everything is as okay as the doctors here seem to think it is. Is that okay with you?”
Abby looked to Lorna, and seemed to know that this was the friend she was talking about coming. She then returned her attention back to the redhead and then darted her eye sight to her chart, before returning her glaze to the woman. ”Are you like Lorna?” She asked, curiosity getting the better of her and nodded her head in answer to the question that was asked her. Lorna was the first mutant she had ever met, and wondered if she wouldn’t be the last…

Phoenix
Lorna moved to Abby's other side so that she could have the one that was closest to the door. Convincing the staff at the hospital that she was who she said she had seemed like it was going to be a difficult task until one of the other doctors had come from a patient's room and had noticed her. She'd gone to school with him and while he was essentially still a resident, he had vouched for her. Samuel had gone so far as to tell her that he wasn't surprised to see her there although she couldn't discern if it was because this was the daughter of a super hero or because Lorna was involved. She knew how much the green haired woman liked her privacy but that hair was so noticeable that many people figured out what she was based on that. It wasn't fair but it was simply how things worked.
He'd been the one to give Jean the file and updated her on everything that had been done since Ms. Stark's arrival. She was grateful and a bit relieved that he hadn't held the fact she was a mutant against her. There were so few in the world that would have done that and she was just grateful he'd not been privy to her life over the last year.
Abby took a very noticeable interest in her medical file so Jean showed it to her, not feeling there was anything in there that the girl shouldn't know about. “Basically, it shows that your scan indicated no damage to your brain so it is very likely you have a concussion. Also, the lacerations on your wrists did not sever any vital veins and once they heal, you might have a minimal scar but I will see what I can do about that. You haven't been running any fevers which is a good thing. If we can stave off any infections, then you will heal that much faster,” she explained as she flipped through the pages of the file. What she didn't say was that the severity of the concussion wasn't a trifling thing at all but if she was watched closely, then all would be well and she'd feel better in a few days.
She had to laugh softly as Abby asked if she was like Lorna. “If you mean am I a mutant, then yes. Lorna has electromagnetic abilities and I am a psychokinetic. That's a fancy word for saying that I am a telepath and a telekinetic rolled into one. I can help the pain you are feeling without the need for medication if you allow and I can also use my powers to make sure that you don't have any other injuries that the doctors might have missed. If you have any questions at all, just ask me, okay? I'd like to get started before Lorna gets any antsier,” she told the girl with a grin up at Lorna.
Reaching down, she lifted one of Abby's wrists and examined the stitching that was done on it. It was a good job, that was clear immediately. The only issue was the stitches had been pulled at, likely with Abby moving around, causing some very tiny gaps in the closure. With a bit of her powers, she pulled the skin back together and painlessly tightened the stitches, sealing the opening in a way that would have been impossible for doctors to do. She did it all without actually touching the skin or the wound at all.
Polaris
Through it all, Lorna watched. She trusted Jean where this was concerned, she just didn't trust her enough to let her back into her personal life. No matter what reasons were given for the woman's erratic behavior in recent months, it wasn't good enough for her. No, Lorna was the type that was going to have to be proved to that things had truly changed.
Reaching out to rest a hand on Abby's free one, she asked, “You holding out okay? If she hurts you, let me know. I can kick her butt later.” The last was said with a smile to indicate she was teasing. Lorna wasn't stupid. Jean could kick her butt five ways to Sunday and she'd do it before Lorna could blink.

Abby was just wondering if her assumption of the file that Dr. Grey-Summers had in her hand was indeed her own medical file. However she had gotten one big surprise when the nice, redhead doctor opened and began to tell her what it said. By that time, Lorna had moved on her other side to allow her friend to get better access to her. Funny thing was that as the good doctor told her what her file said, she completely understood everything that was said. And she slowly nodded her head to portray that, however the throbbing in it only increased slightly and she put up her hands to massage her temples.
I'd like to get started before Lorna gets any antsier,”
She watched and allowed her to lift her wrist from where those people had sliced it open as she examined it. She felt her skin tightened a bit on her wrist, and the pull of the stitches as they tightened even more. Funny thing was that she didn’t feel any pain at the movement, and she smiled up at the doctor. Well as much as her throbbing head allowed. She then slowly looked to Lorna and gave her the same smile, before returning it back to the redhead. ”Thank you.” She said with a bit of a wince as her own voice didn’t sound right in her head.
”You holding out okay? If she hurts you, let me know. I can kick her butt later.”
Abby’s hands were back at her head after she felt Lorna’s hand on the one that wasn’t injured for a brief moment. She noticed the smile that the green haired woman gave her, and she knew that she was of course just joking. She didn’t know if she should nod her head in answer, or talk. It seemed both only caused the throbbing to increase in her head. She took a deep breath, and decided to bear the pain of speaking. ”I’m fine, beside this horrible headache that seemed to be spawned from Satan…” She told her friend and drifted off as it only made her head worse, and she was back to rubbing her temples.

Lorna glanced over at Jean when Abby complained about the headache again. She wanted the redhead to get a move on, to deal with the head injury and leave the others for later. That was the one that had her the most worried. Jean caught her eye and nodded, as if she completely understood what she was thinking. And who knew, maybe she did. The woman could read minds, after all.
Jean moved so that she gently rested her hands on either side of Abby's head, closed her eyes and stood there for a long moment. Lorna watched her the whole time, waiting to see what she found, if anything. Finally, the woman opened her eyes and looked down at Abby. “You're going to feel a small sensation in your head for a few seconds. It shouldn't hurt, feel more like there's something in there that you can't put your finger on,” Jean informed the girl as she reached back into her mind and began to dull the pain receptors.
While she was in there, she checked around for anything that would indicate an injury that the scans would miss. She knew the human mind inside and out, having spent over half her life as a rather powerful telepath and studying medicine for many years. Anything that was out of the ordinary would be rather obvious to her and luckily, she found no such things inside Abby.
Withdrawing gently, she removed her hands and said, “Does your head still hurt? It is a temporary fix but it might be enough to help you sleep tonight.”
Looking over at the green haired woman, she added, “Stop worrying so much. She's going to be fine. There is definitely a rather nasty concussion but it isn't life threatening as long as we watch it. Abby is young still and her body will naturally recover quite easily from this sort of injury.” Lorna merely frowned at her.
Looking back at Abby, she asked, “Do you hurt anywhere else? Or think there's something else that you should tell me?”

Abby allowed the pretty doctor to place her hands on the side of her head, one on each side, and watched as she closed her eyes. She wondered what the redhead was doing, but kept the question to herself and decided to let the nice doctor do what she was trying to do. She only wanted that headache of hers to go away and never come back, and she looked up at Dr. Grey-Summers when she opened her eyes and looked at her.
“You're going to feel a small sensation in your head for a few seconds. It shouldn't hurt, feel more like there's something in there that you can't put your finger on,”
She gave a slight nod of her head to acknowledge that she understood. And what she found was a rather pleasant truth in that. It was indeed like there was something on her mind, in her thoughts, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. She then began to wonder if the doctor could see in her thoughts and memories, but she attempted to keep that inquiry to herself. She didn’t know if she succeeded in that or not.
”Does your head still hurt? It is a temporary fix but it might be enough to help you sleep tonight.”
Abby smiled gratefully when the doctor removed her hands. And when she was asked if her head still hurt, she shook her head. It didn’t hurt any more and began to wonder why that was it. However when she mentioned sleep, she only grew a bit sad. She suddenly wanted to go home and sleep in her own bed, safe under the watchful eye of Jarvis. She looked to Lorna and then to Dr. Grey-Summers.
”Stop worrying so much. She’s going to be fine. There is definitely a rather nasty concussion but it isn’t life threatening as long as we watch it. Abby is young still and her body will naturally recover quite easily from this sort of injury.”
She returned her gaze to Lorna and nodded her head in agreement with the doctor. She knew it to be true, and knew that since she was always followed by trouble like Scarlet followed Rhett then she would have to have some major luck on her side to stay safe like she has been doing. Part of it, she could think the traits she was cursing only moments ago.
”Do you hurt anywhere else? Or think there’s something else that you should tell me?”
Abby returned her attention back to the doctor, and shook her head. ”But I do want to go home…” She said and then looked between Lorna and her wondering if they would let her go.

She couldn't help it if she fretted a bit. Although she wasn't really in the market for long term relationships with most people, she found that she honestly cared about what happened to the girl. To know that she'd been hurt, pretty badly, on top of everything else she'd done, just didn't sit well with her. Why she was becoming attached was beyond her. Lorna was all of twenty-two years old and still in college. By rights, she had her whole life ahead of her but her life had become different from the norm that fateful day in high school when she'd been struck by lightning. And had walked away without a scratch. It had been the day her mutant powers had been activated by nature.
There were times she wondered if she'd blissfully remain unaware of the power that laid inside her aside from her oddly colored hair if that hadn't had happened. They hadn't manifested at puberty like most teenagers did, hers had taken an outside force to awake them. Where would her life be now if things had continued on the path she'd been on?
It was a moot point and one that she'd tried to stop thinking about over the years. What was done was done and there was no going back now. So she rolled her eyes at Jean but didn't say anything, instead, turning her attention on Abby. Who wanted to go home.
Her stomach fell again at the thought. She wanted to take Abby home, to tuck her into bed and set the computer man to watch over her while she waited for Tony to return. There was no way Lorna would leave her alone but the thought of taking Abby away from the hospital without him filled her with dread. Not that they could really get in contact with him to get his permission.
Jean smiled at the girl as she replied, “I'm glad the headache is gone. I will go out and speak with the on call doctor and we'll see about getting you home and in your own bed for the night.”
She didn't bother to ask where Abby's father was. That much had been told to her during her telepathic conversation with Lorna earlier. Jean left and Lorna sat back down on the side of the bed.
“She'll find a way to get you home,” Lorna told Abby with a small smile. “She has a way of getting what she wants, even if she doesn't use her telepathy to do it.”
Sure enough, moments later, Jean reentered the room with another doctor, the one who'd been handling her situation thus far as well as a nurse to remove Abby's IV and help her dress. Stepping outside the curtain area, she talked to both doctors.
“She can go home but she has to be watched constantly. If she develops a fever or begins to complain that her head is hurting severely or begins to vomit, she will have to be brought right back here again, do you understand?” the young doctor was telling Lorna.
She nodded, taking in all the directions. He prepared to leave again before turning to Jean. “It was good to see you again, Dr. Grey. Tell your father I said hello. I miss the long conversations we used to have back in the day,” he added to the redhead.
“I'll do that,” she told him before he left. Then she turned to Lorna. “You know this has me incredibly curious, don't you.”
“If Tony Stark doesn't kill me for taking his daughter home, I may tell you about it someday. In the meantime, thanks for coming. I know the doctors here know what they are doing but I feel better knowing you've seen her inside and out,” she replied to her former best friend.
Jean left and Lorna walked back into the room. Smiling at Abby, she asked, “So, you ready to leave? I, personally, am tired of this place already.”

Abby was actually glad that her head didn’t hurt any more, and that she can finally finish mentally designing Lorna’s new phone. She had it all figured it out, save for what features her green haired friend would want with it. She filed the nearly finished plans away for later. She’ll surprise her with it as a thank you gift or something later, when she was feeling better of course. She knew the moment that she told Jarvis that she wanted to lay down in her own bed, and ask him to grant her access, he’ll no doubt contact her father and alert him to her arrival at the penthouse.
When the nice redhead said that she was glad her head didn’t hurt any more, she smile at her and nodded her head at her going to see if she can go home. When the nice doctor left the room she turned her attention back to her green haired friend and smiled warmly at her. Her smile widen and brightened when her friend told her that the nice doctor will find a way to get her home, and giggled a little bit at knowing that she has a way of getting what she wants even without her powers.
Abby’s attention returned to Dr. Grey-Summers when she reentered with another doctor and a nurse, who the later removed her IV drip and helped her back into her ruined and filthy dress. She heard the directions that were given in pertaining to her post hospital treatment, and she automatically nodded her head not knowing that they were actually talking to the nice redhead instead. When she was semi dressed, well as much dressed as a ruin dress could give, she noticed the curious interaction between Lorna and the female doctor. She then wondered what had her incredibly curious, and decided to ask her green haired friend later.
“If Tony Stark doesn't kill me for taking his daughter home, I may tell you about it someday. In the meantime, thanks for coming. I know the doctors here know what they are doing but I feel better knowing you've seen her inside and out,”
”I don’t think Daddy will kill you, Lorna. I have a feeling he won’t mind as long as you don’t whisk me away somewhere and lock me up in some room or something.” She responded, her head clearer now that it was throbbing and knowing that she should perhaps apologize to her father for acting like a jerk.
“So, you ready to leave? I, personally, am tired of this place already.”
Abby nodded her head in answer, and approached her friend after the nice doctor left. ”That makes two of us. And yes I am, is there a faster way out other than the door?” She asked half jokingly, and smiled up at her friend and hugged her. She of course was mindful of her injuries, and wondered if her father was okay.
(OOC: Feel free to close it out.)

Lorna watched as Jean walked away and she rejoined Abby, happy to see the girl dressed, even if it was in a rather mangled and disgusting dress. Yikes. It hadn't even dawned on her to get Abby some clean clothes but then again, she'd basically been there at the hospital ever since Tony had brought her in. And she'd really not paid too much attention to Abby's clothes at the time, only worried about her health.
Well, there wasn't much that could be done about it now. However, a bath was first on the list of things to do once they got to her home, even if Lorna would likely have to do the bathing herself since Abby couldn't get the stitches wet. Would Abby even let her help with something like that? It was a discussion for later, though. First they had to get her home.
She gave Abby a grateful smile when the girl told her that her father wouldn't kill her. No, killing her would probably not be something he did but making her life miserable? Oh, he could so do that and given how angry he was when he left, Lorna wouldn't put it past him to do something to her. And that something probably wouldn't be a good something, either, although she could still think of many good somethings that he could do to her instead...
Bringing her thoughts back to the girl in front of her, she replied, “I hope you're right and there's no reason for me to take you anywhere but home. I wouldn't be that hard to track down anyway.” Lorna had added the last bit with a grin.
Abby indicated that she was ready to go as well and Lorna picked up her coat, intent on slipping it on then thought better of it. Instead, she wrapped it around Abby to keep the girl warm. “I think there's a car waiting for us out the back door. Security has handled the reporters and there's an emergency exit out back that is private and we can go through. I promise, you'll be home before you know it,” she replied, trying to reassure the girl.
With that, they were escorted by security to the private door and were on their way toward Stark Towers.
