Otto Octavius had lied to Bruce, about finding a cure to his gamma radiation sickness. Otto did find a cure for the sickness, but he didn't want to cure Banner's weapon. Otto knew that the Hulk would've been a great attribute to the team he was building. He already had Carnage on his side, and now he needed someone with a huge amount of strength... Someone he could basically control. After hiring the Punisher, to do his dirty-work, Otto's plans were turning out the way he wanted it to be. He knew Spiderman would be present, and he so dearly needed the revenge. Doc Ock knew he could kill two birds with one stone, by capturing the Hulk, and by killing Spiderman.
Otto left his sanctuary to finish the third phase in his plans. He needed to capture the Hulk, in order for him to experiment on the green monster so he could either make him a weapon, or create one himself using his gamma cells. Traveling with his metallic tentacles, Otto walked alongside buildings until he reached his desired destination. Spotting the Hulk, he smiled evily. Before Spiderman could take the leap of faith, Otto extended a metallic tentacle, snatching him by his leg. As Otto clutched the spider's leg, he swung him upon the ground multiple times. "YOU SEE! BUGS DESERVE TO BE SQUASHED" he said laughing evily as he continued to smash Spidey upon the pavement.
