The subway was not her favorite way to travel, but it was the fastest and the cheapest, and if you ignored the overcrowding, the smell of urine, and the overall unhygienic nature of it all, then it was still hell. Especially when you get engaged in a conversation with a bum and completely miss your stop, landing yourself in a part of New York you have never ventured before.
What was worse, she had an hour or so to kill before the train she needed would actually make it here, which is unless she wanted to sit on another subway and wait even longer. The intelligent, sensible part of Charlotte told her to just sit tight and wait, but the adventurous, curious side of her was much stronger, telling her she might as well go explore—this was an opportune moment for her to see more of her beloved city.
It was an unfortunate slight that it seemed this part of the city was rather seedy, something she immediately realized when she ventured out of the dark subway and into the bleak light the cloud covered sky was providing. Being the idiot fearless person she was, the brunette did not feel particularly scared, and instead was intrigued, brushing back a few stray hairs that dared to invade her vision as she began to walk, having just enough sense to not want to stray very far from the subway itself, lest she forget how to get back.
Charlotte could feel eyes on her, and out of her peripherals she could spot someone staring at her, causing the hair on the back of her neck to stand. She hated when people stared at her, it made her feel paranoid and uncomfortable.
To combat her feeling of unease, she veered off into the closet shop she could find, entering a quaint little coffee establishment. The scent of sweets mingled with caffeine was heavy in the air, causing a feeling of serenity to befall her. She supposed getting something to drink while she waited could not hurt.
[OOC: Hope it is okay, just trying to get a feel for this character, not to mention I’m kind of bad at making starter threads. ]

Johnny was currently sitting in a coffee shop on his own, that was not a common occurrence normally when he went out he had to have Sue accompany him because obviously he was going to do something stupid and illegal every time that he left the house, however at the same time it meant that people recognised him more when Sue was with him which seemed to be something that she hated. After all the fact that they where media heroes was Johnny’s thing Sue didn't seem to like it, Ben down right hated it because of how he looked but Johnny had loved it in the beginning what wasn’t to love, he was a superhero.
Johnny was still drinking his coffee when a woman entered the shop, he could see that she was seemingly nervous about something but he could not tell what, not that it was his business at all to pry but he just got the feeling that there was something that she was not happy about at all. “Excuse me,” he said moving with his coffee from his own table to by hers. “I hope I am not being rude but you look distressed, is everything ok?”

So engrossed in her own thoughts of what to get, she had hardly noticed the male sidling up next to her, though it was kind of hard to miss when he was talking right at her. “Hm?” she mumbled, still partially distracted as warm chocolate eyes regarded him politely, almost immediately recognizing him, but from where she had no idea. It took a moment, but his words slowly registered, and she waved a small, almost dismissive hand, laughing slightly. “Oh, no, I’m fine. Just not from around here is all,” she replied, having almost completely forgotten about the slightly creepy male who had been staring at her before she entered the shop. He was probably harmless, anyway, if perhaps a little sexually frustrated.
“Thanks for your concern, though,” the brunette added, not wanting to seem standoffish, though could not help but squint at him slightly. He looked so familiar, but she could not quite put her finger on it, and honestly it was a bit irritating for Charlotte. It would be rude to ask, she decided, but still could not help but wrack her brain for the name that was dancing across the tip of her tongue, so tantalizingly close to realizing just who he was, but it was just out of her reach—teasing her so.
“I’m Charlotte, by the way.”
She extended her hand for him to shake, hoping perhaps he would reply with his own name and she would suddenly have a eureka moment.

Johnny was taken aback slightly, all he had been doing was asking if the woman was ok and she was kind of rude in that she had told him that everything was ok before brushing him off and telling him that it was none of his concern, if Johnny didn't concern himself with things that didn't actually amount to things of his concern he would be out of a job as a superhero and more to the point he would be a pretty crappy good guy if he let beautiful women get annoyed and scared or whatever this emotion was that this young woman was currently going through. “So long as you are sure,” Johnny said before drinking more of his coffee, he didn't want to seem like a creep or a stalker, then he reached across and shook her hand loosely he didn't want to hurt her hand so it was a very loose handshake “nice to meet you Charlotte, I am Johnny Storm”

Charlotte was sure, but did not verbalize her certainty, figuring he would merely assume she was okay. She had not meant any ill will against him, but nor was she the type to concern others with her business, and besides she doubted he could help her anyway. Well, not unless he could make time move faster or somehow get her back to her own apartment, but those were minor things. Instead she kept that small, but nonetheless charming smile plastered across her pink lips as they shook hands, noting the contrast between them—his was much larger, calluses having formed across his fingers, and overall felt rougher compared to her small, dainty, and well moisturized hand.
She had also not missed the fact his handshake had been rather loose, and was not sure if she should take offense to it or not. A loose handshake, she had learned, usually meant a lack of respect, but Charlotte shrugged it off. No use starting fights over silly things anyway, especially when she doubted she would ever meet this man again.
It was particularly unfortunate that his name was still not ringing any bells, her mind a blank slate. The brunette was horrible with names, as well as faces, and she was beginning to wonder if she had not mistaken him for someone else. “It’s nice to meet you, Johnny,” the female murmured, letting her tongue wrap around his name, as if hoping repeating it would cause her to have an epiphany, but no such luck. If he was there, she might as well start small talk though, right? Maybe she could figure out where she had seen him before, if she had actually seen him at all?
“So are you from around here?” she inquired curiously, the thought of coffee slipping her mind for the time being as she leaned forward, one elbow resting upon the table, allowing her chin to slump into the palm of her hand. He was actually cute, and she wondered if he was perhaps one of her drunken one night stands—it was plausible. “If you don’t mind me asking, of course,” Charlotte added, the sides of her mouth twitching upward a bit more, her grin becoming wider.

Johnny was surprised when Charlotte seemingly didn’t know who he was, not that he was arrogant but he hadn’t met anyone so far as he knew that didn’t know of Johnny Storm, only because his name was pretty well known. After all himself and the rest of the fantastic 4 had made themselves well known since the creation of the team and didn’t shy away from the group that they where going to be, they where heroes plain and simple. If that wasn’t liked then it was too bad, they would do things their way and that was the way that it was going to be.
Johnny smiled at her when she asked if he was from around her. “I have hardly ever left New York in my life,” he told her, “of course unless you count space.” Johnny smirked at this, he had used the fact that he was Johnny Storm as a chat up line on more than one occasion and it never failed, however it wasn’t like that right now, he was more just talking about it because this girl interested him, if it wasn’t because of the fact that she was interesting he probably would have just smirked and asked her out.
“”What about you?” he asked her “a local or new in town?”

He answered her question, indicating that he was, in fact, native to New York, though an eyebrow slowly began to rise upon her forehead when he mentioned space. At first, she thought it was a cheesy pick-up line, but she could not possibly see how, and the fact he did not follow up with anything also troubled her. Had he actually been in space? So he was an astronaut? She had never met anyone that had been out of this world before (pun not intended), though at the same time she held skepticism about his claim. Maybe that was where she had heard his name, though? Surely she would recognize an astronaut’s name, right? Charlotte’s manic thinking was interrupted as he inquired about her own New York status, causing her to smile wryly.
“Local, well, to New York, anyway, just not this part of New York,” she replied, absently brushing aside a few stray hairs from her face. “Though I grew up in Ohio, we moved here about ten years ago,” she continued, old thoughts of her childhood flooding back to her. She missed her hometown, she really did, but something told the brunette they had been happy to be rid of her. Mutants weren’t welcome anywhere, it seemed, though with how much went on in New York…well, she blended in nicely, especially seeing as her abilities did not give her any outward mutations to give away to the fact she was not a normal human like the rest of them.
“So…” there was a small pause, words faltering for a moment. “You’ve really been to outer space?” Her disbelief was apparent, but who could blame her? There were some creeps in the world whom would lie until the cows came home, just to get into a girls pants, not that he quite seemed like he was attempting to get anywhere near her privates, but there was always the possibility.

Johnny still couldn’t believe his luck that this girl seemingly didn’t know who he was simply because of the fact that he hadn’t met many people that didn’t know who he was, it was not anything to do with arrogance or believing that he wasn’t better than anyone else or worse than anyone else, just he could very rarely not escape the fact that he was part of the fantastic 4, not that he tried very hard to escape this fact.
“Yeah I lived here with my sister,” he told her “it was an experience to say the least, I love her though despite how much a pain in my ass she is.” Johnny then smiled when she said that she lived in New York but had spent years in Ohio, “which do you prefer?” he said kindly “if either.”
Then johnny’s attention was taken from him when a young child walked over to him, the kid didn’t really pay much attention to Charlotte. “Excuse me Mr Storm can I have your autograph?” he asked handing Johnny a newspaper article of the fantastic 4. Johnny sighed and accepted the paper and signed across the picture where he and Sue stood side by side. “glad to help you little buddy.” Then he turned back to Charlotte remembering he wasn’t alone. “that is why I don’t like being in crowded areas and I was in here.”

“Oh, that’s good you get to see your sister a lot. My brother travels for his job, so I usually don’t get to see much of him, but he does take me out whenever he’s around, so I guess I can’t complain to much,” the brunette shrugged softly, remembering the calendar she kept at home—she was actually counting the days until she could see Jason again. It was sadly usually the highlight of her month when she did see her brother, mostly because she had nothing interesting going on in her life. Her brother would always humor her with stories of his travels, no matter how mundane or trivial they seemed to him, they sounded much more interesting than her day to day life. Not that Charlotte could see herself as a businesswoman, but she would jump at the opportunity to be able to travel.
His next question caused her smile to falter a little, not really sure how to answer it. Charlotte enjoyed the small town environment to a point, the hustle and bustle of New York sometimes being a drain upon her, but at the same time she had been outcast in Ohio, not to mention she had a feeling she would find life back home even more boring than life in New York. At least you occasionally got to see a car chase or something. “I suppose New York, though I haven’t been to Ohio in ages, so who knows,” she shrugged softly, the smile lighting up her features yet again.
Naturally though, she found herself rather confused when a young boy walked up to their table, eyes scanning over his youthful face despite the fact he seemed oblivious to her presence. “An autograph?” she breathed quietly to herself, squinting at the paper lightly and catching part of the headlines. Fantastic 4…she remembered hearing about them. The Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, The Thing, and The Human Torch—she personally thought they could work on the names, but to little to late now.
Then it clicked, brown eyes moving to regard Johnny once again. “Ohhh,” she said, finally realizing where she had seen him before. “You’re the Human Torch, right? I knew I saw your face before!” There was a small pause, not really sure what to say next, after all it was not everyday someone met a self-proclaimed hero. “You know, that suit you were is really tight—isn’t it uncomfortable?” Yes, out of all the things she could have said, all the questions she could have asked, she inquired about his suit…in her defense, it was really tight, and it did not look very comfortable.

“Family is important,” Johnny said evenly when she said that she didn’t see her brother much. He was still a little put out that he had been spotted but he wasn’t going to let it get to him simply because of it. After all Johnny was use to people working out who he was now. So he couldn’t really have that much of a problem with it. Then he saw that there seemed to be a light turn on for Charlotte when he had signed the autograph, Johnny couldn’t believe that she hadn’t gotten it from sitting and talking to him but instead when he had signed something for a fan he supposed, some people where just unable to get things straight away he supposed, but he was glad she hadn’t shouted out who he was.
“The suit is fine, I think Ben has a harder job than me with the clothes to be fair” He said with a chuckle “so now you know I am a superhero you wanna tell me what was wrong earlier?”

When he mentioned the name “Ben”, it did not ring any particular bells, though she could only assume he meant “The Thing” (that name was actually kind of demeaning, if you asked her, but it was their choice she supposed), nodding absently in agreement. “Yeah, I suppose. He probably has to get things specially tailored to fit him right,” she mused, though not for long when Johnny brought up her earlier “problem”. A smirk crossed her features, causing her to sit up a little straighter. Superheroes, always waiting to save everybody… she mused mentally.
“No,” she replied, looking rather coy about the whole situation as she leaned back, arms crossing over her chest. “Like I said before, thank you for your concern, but if I thought I was in danger I would ask for help,” she paused for a few moments, not trying to sound like a bitch, but it was the truth. Not like she was being stalked by some super villain, just a creepy guy probably staring at her ass. “Besides, I’m not as helpless as I look,” she added, though left it at that, not interested in revealing she was a mutant, not even to a superhero. She was always wary when it came to that kind of thing, after all you never knew the reaction you would receive.

Johnny grinned when she spoke of Ben, to be fair that Johnny had been glad that she had known who he had meant when he had called Ben by his name and not the thing. Johnny was beginning to regret calling his friend the thing when he announced the team to the world. After all he and Ben had begun to work on their friendship better, they where never going to be best buds but they were not fighting as much and could actually have civilised conversations, something they couldn’t do a couple of weeks before. “Yeah I do feel sorry for the guy,” he said “the suit isn’t the best material in the world either, luckily I have it easier than him though because I generally wear clothes underneath my costume, he wears them over,”
Johnny sighed when she continued to insist that she didn’t need help over whatever had bothered her when she came in. “Ok,” he said “I had to ask or they would take my hero card, so would you be interested in getting a drink sometime?”

She nodded sagely as he continued to talk about the suits, not imagining they would be comfortable no matter what. She supposed it was better than walking around naked when using ones powers—an experience she had already went through. Now, she was not shy about her body, but at the same time it really was not very inconspicuous, darting around naked as a jaybird. It would especially be difficult if you were attempting to be a family oriented superhero…luckily, Charlotte was no heroine, her powers being a bit to passive for her to be comfortable attempting to fight crime with them. The brunette was sure there had to be ways to use her powers offensively without touch, but she just had not figured out how yet.
A grin spread across her face at his joke, soon followed by an inquiry to go out sometime. “Sure, why not?” she replied, her eyes darting toward the clock that hung on the wall daintily. It was nearly time for her to start heading back to the subway. “How about I give you my number and you can call me sometime so we can set something up? I really need to get going here soon though, at least if I want to make it home before midnight,” Charlotte explained, a hand already fishing around her purse to try and extract a pen and piece of paper.

“Great,” Johnny said, it hadn’t been something he had planned but he had to admit the woman was very good looking but at the same time he wasn’t sure if she would want to date him, even though she seemed keen to go out with him for dinner or a drink or something he didn’t have plans to turn it into a relationship. He didn’t want a relationship he just wanted to have fun and it looked like this girl wanted the same thing but of course he could didn’t think that she would agree with him and go for a casual relationship. Even if they made it past the one night.
“Sure,” he said handing her his phone “put your number in that, I trust you,”

Just when she had located a pen, he was handing her his phone, causing her fingers to release the object. Charlotte was use to doing it the old fashion way, though she had no problem with typing it into his phone either, taking it from him and easily navigating through it—she also noted that it was nicer than her cell phone, but most peoples were. She had a prepaid plan, and a crappy, albeit, cheap little flip phone that was more or less a flip brick. “You do? Well, that’s probably your first mistake,” she teased lightly as she began to program her number into his cell.
She was being mildly serious, though. Charlotte was a nice girl, and she liked to have fun, but she had never seen herself as the type to bring home to ones family—maybe that was because no one had ever done it before. The brunette never had a serious relationship, or a real relationship period, and probably would not know what to do with herself if she got into one. It was a rather frightening thought to be honest, though she was not sure why—perhaps she had commitment issues?
“There, all done,” she announced, saving it before handing it back to him, moving to stand up. “I should get going now though, so I’ll talk to you another time?” she offered him a smile and a small wink—she had already given him her number, so no shame in a little flirting, right?
