The area was desolate. It was putrid with guilt and shame. It reaked of love and courage. The purity of such loss, great triumph smited by immediate failure- it tasted delicious.
The once famous laboratory was in crumbles, nearly a pile of cinder blocks and ruble. The debris indicated such a fight that defied nature. The earth shied away from this place, turned its eye from such a scene that once stood here. Good and evil had fought, and in the end, good had triumphed with great loss. Or had it? Mutant versus mutant had destroyed the land, made it cracked and dead covered in human debris. The sounds of the city of San Fransisco were drowned away to nothing here, the earth holding that last moment that a mutant died and changed the future for all.
The Phoenix was a brilliant creature, full of joy and rage and passion. It fed on the power of stars and took the host of Jean Grey, the X-man. They bonded so well, a connection the Phoenix Force would never forget, that it still yearned for.
Madelyne Pryor stood in the midst of the crumbled memories of the final battle when the mutants took a stand. Long, firey red hair hung in loose waves to her waist, pale skin and vibrant green eyes flashed from behind the veil of red flames that curtained her face. She was the spitting image of Jean Grey, a clone from Sinister's glorious science.
"Hear me!" She hollered out to the gray sky. "I am fire, and life encarnate! Now and forever, I am - PHOENIX!" Her arms raised to the skies and fire swirled in the gray clouds as lightning flashed. She lowered her hands, a smile tugged her lips to one side in evil grin. "Good Bye, Jean Grey, every being in the universe now fears this, Madelyne Pryor, the Dark Phoenix...and I rise here...from your stil....warm...ashes." Fire engulfed her and she vanished from the desolate site, the past forgotten and the future in hand.
