She hoped sooner than later she'd find her self at home here. Thus far she'd found nothing but discomfort and a city full of noise and annoyance. This place truly was filled with mutants or so she had noticed. You didn't have to go far past the school to find more. New York, the real place of freaks. Honestly, if she wasn't one of them she might be terrified of this place. Not all people were good, and given that many of them had much more powerful, well, powers then she did she would actually have to watch her mouth. And that just wouldn't do. She felt the need to speak her mind and to play her games because, well, that's how she got her enjoyment.
Well, depending on her mood, and her mood for the time being, if only to get comfortable was to speak. Well, play games, at least. Though, in all honesty that one shifting girl had been an accident. She'd thought it was a dog and she hated animals.
Thus she sat there alone that afternoon eating a meal she'd just gotten from a McDonalds. It wasn't very good but she wasn't too sure what they ate here anyway and to be honest she was quite picky. She munched on the fries with her hand on her drink. A book at her side and she felt her stomach slowly growing into a happy state.

Johnny walked in, a bit hungry. His day had definitely gotten better. He noticed the girl he had seen earlier. She was eating and had a book at her side. Johnny was curious about her read. Johnny walked up to her, "What are you reading?" Johnny was genuinely curious. Although he may not have looked like it, he liked to read. He was also a computer geek but no one needed to know that. He smiled at her, dimples and all.

Gwen arched an eyebrow at a new presence. Looking at her side she saw the man, or rather, boy in his instance that had stopped the wolf she-bitch from attacking her. Thankful enough, she had left with intentions of asking him a favor. He looked like a man that knew what to do at a time when she might need to actually defend herself. Through all her words and talk she wasn't strong, or agile in any manner. She was simple just herself with her miniscule ability.
“A Midsummer Night's Dream.”
She said simply, managing to give him a smile, something she only did for “social” purposes such as this. Given he'd commented on her calling the girl Puck at their first meeting. She said nothing of this, but inclined it's detail with her smile. The smile faded and she took another fry into her mouth and bit into it, chewing quite slowly.
“What if I were to ask you a favor?”

Johnny took a seat next to her, pondering her question. A favor? His interest was peaked. What did this girl want from him? He'd just met her and she was already asking for favors? Who was she? Who was that wolf girl? He sighed, "Sure, but on the condition that you don't bother with fake smiles when addressing me." He had noticed that her smile wasn't complete. He decided it'd be best to call her out on it, so he did. Now the question was, how would she react? Johnny's interest was peaked but now it was a matter of keeping it peaked.

Apparently this boy read minds, or something of the sort. She wondered if that was part of his abilities, that or he read faces a bit too easily, another ability he might have. She arched her eyebrow and leaned forward as he took a seat next to her. Ignoring her food for now she was more interested in what this so-called boy knew.
“It was genuine, actually. If you can read a smile so well, why couldn't you read my intentions behind it.”
Eyebrow still arched she was a bit perplexed and actually offended.
“I was asking for a favor, but you seem a little high on your stand. Have you even hit puberty yet?”
Yes. Offended. How fucking rude could you get? Don't use fake smiles when addressing him? Let him get off his high fucking ladder and realize he isn't dealing with some dumb bitch, that would be nice. And to think, she was actually going to ask him for a favor.

John look at her and rolled his eyes, "Calm down. I'm 18 by the way but you're free to think otherwise." Was his day about to go from bad to good to worse? He wasn't aware who this girl was but he could tell that she had a tendency to be irritating. "If you're going to bother smiling, make sure it looks genuine then. Anyway, you really shouldn't go around insulting people unless you have something to back it up. I was not insulting you, just stating something I happened to observe. Now, you can either ask me the favor or I can be on my way. I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful, just blunt. It's something you get used too when you're a mutant." Johnny was usually tactical in his speech, but he wasn't in the mood to start having a bad day again.

“Maybe if it was the truth I wouldn't be offended. You can stop making assumptions because this one made an ass out of you. My smile was genuine, so get the fuck over yourself pretty boy.”
She was actually angry, something she rarely got. Maybe the week had gotten to her, or maybe she really just didn't like to be considered a liar, even if it was just a smile. A smile that was meant for something, an intention to bring up “Puck” whether or not he had understood that smile, was just irritating.
“Just mutants have to deal with this stupidity then? You must really get out in the real world. It doesn't revolve around what a mutant does. They don't even notice the difference between us out there because mentally we are them. Just as you're an 18 year old boy that thinks he knows everything.”
She crossed her arms, her stare on him.
“I wanted to learn to fight, but instead I got into one with you. Ironic, isn't it?”

Johnny sighed, "Just so you know, you made quite a few assumptions yourself. I apologize." ~Why am I doing this? What is up with me today?~ Johnny thought to himself. He was usually very sociable and cheerful but he was surprisingly gloomy today. ~Alright, calm down~he thought. "Why do you want to know how to fight?" Johnny was interested yet detached at the same time. He had a million things running through his mind at the moment and was a bit distracted. He really needed to stop being an A**hole.

“If I made any assumptions then you started it.”
She was a little bitter by now but she was calming down. She kept at her seat though she was having trouble looking at him without feeling a steam of anger. It was odd feeling like this, but once you set her off she wasn't one to stop. Maybe it was the vulnerability of asking for help. She wasn't one that commonly did even that, but she wanted to learn. She needed to learn.
“I was face to face with a wolf, and I had no way to protect myself.”
She looked at him finally. No facial expression. Void of that emotion as she was used to. Home sweet home. She slowly composed herself, flushing the anger down the emotional drain.
“With all these mutants open to the world out here who knows what I'll come face to face with next. And maybe whatever it is won't hold back.”

Johnny thought about it, "Alright. What's your ability?" he asked her. He was quite bored and needed something to occupy him. Maybe this could be it. It was worth a shot. What did he have to lose? ... Oh yeah, his sanity. But still, he decided to try her out. He'd pick up quite a bit during his years at the Mansion. Especially with Martial Arts. He didn't see any problem with teaching her how to protect herself.

Well. The question she expected and didn't really want to put forward. Her ability had always been something of use for anything but protecting herself. Wanna become a doctor? You just have to read all these books and pass all these tests. No problem that you can read the text books within minutes and pass the tests with ease because comprehension comes with the gig. Have an essay due? Well, let's get right on that. Read, and quote and you've got that essay right up within half an hour. Read directions? You got it and she'll remember every word.
But there she was.
No way to help herself.
She looked up at him and without even picking up the book, she flipped the pages in a quick sequence until the book closed on it's other end. She shrugged.
“I can remember, and comprehend anything I've read, but it isn't going to help me defend myself unless I want to manage giving them a papercut.”
She actually smirked, “Think that'll warn them off?”

John thought about it for a second, "Hmm. Have you ever tried seeing if you could to the same by focusing on what you saw? Your ability might go as far as to be able to understand how other people's powers work. You might be able to see their weaknesses and faults. It's a theory but we could talk to the Professor about it. But of the matter of actual combat, what type of fighting were you trying to learn?" Johnny had definitely take an interest in her powers. He found it quite sad that some people didn't realize that their abilities could go further than what they were. It was something that greatly interested him. What was the limitation of the "X" gene?
