Ray was in the hall at the exact wrong time, classes had just let out for the day, and students were swarming the front hall on their way out to have fun on the grounds. Ray hated crowds, Ray didn't really like other people all too much, they couldn't be trusted, but Magneto had told him to try to open up and make friends, so Ray was trying.
Ray pulled the hood on her brown hoodie over his head, hoping to hide his face a little. Ray missed the Brotherhood Manor, it was home. Even though he was at a school for mutants, he still felt different, he still felt like people were staring at him, because unlike most Mutants, Ray looked different. Students bumped into Ray, some said sorry, some looked away from him, but most just kept walking. Ray felt alone, where was Magneto, Ray missed his mentor.
One student caught his eye, one kid looked familiar to Ray, but Ray couldn't be sure. Ray's mind had to be playing tricks on him, there was no way he was here. One kid one solitary kid seemed familiar, Ray wasn't sure but, Ray thought that he had just seen a ghost from his past, the grown up version of the closest Ray had ever had to a friend once his scales had grown. What were the odds that the one boy who had tried to be kind to Ray was a student here, the odds were insurmountable. Ray just had to call out to him, "Hey, excuse me, but you look familiar," as soon as Ray said it he regretted it, there was no way that guy was the same kid, no freaking way.

AJ was bored, he had been having not that good of a day. He had been in a couple of classes but he didn’t want to talk about why he was a mutant or how the world was going to change and that he would be able to have a safer life in the world. He wanted to be able to get the chance to have control over his powers and the fact that he didn’t want to have to worry about getting close to people because of the fact that he could have shocked them with his abilities. Not that he did that a lot but he did worry that he would be unable to turn his power off.
AJ had been in a class with captain America and he had actually had a power surge that had shocked the captain thankfully it hadn’t done much harm to him because of the fact that he was super soldier, the captain had actually had been able to convince him that it wouldn’t be that much of a problem and had actually told him that he didn’t blame him because of the fact that he didn’t have to worry about the fact that he didn’t have control over his powers and he didn’t turn his powers on and attack the captain which was something that he hadn’t meant to happen.
AJ had been so focused that he had nearly missed the voice that had called out to him, turning his head he had caught sight of Ray, it had been instantaneous reaction to him as it wasn’t every day that you would see someone like Ray as AJ had done years ago. His father had chased Ray down the street, AJ had then had a power surge when they got home and destroyed the TV.
“About 10 years ago in San Antonio.” He said looking at the man “I remember,”

Ray remembered the man, he remembered that day. Ray remembered when he'd been chased away from his first friend since his change, by an angry man, Ray was once again a little child, once again terrified by the big man who had threatened his life. How could that kid be here, how could AJ be here, Ray couldn't believe that he was a mutant too, Ray wondered what AJs father thought if his mutant son. Ray was freaking out, he was scared again, and he was in the past, he could see AJs dad coming for him, and Ray ran, Ray ran away, and he didn't look back until he was in a side hallway.
Ray took a few deep breaths and realized what he'd just done, he'd ran away from AJ, like his father was still there, he must have weaned crazy. The smell of burning wallpaper brought Ray back to his senses, his temperature was through the roof, and the wall paper was on fire. Ray quickly put it out before, sinking down to the floor, Ray was ashame of himself.

AJ was completely confused why the man ran away from him because of the fact that he had called out to him and it was not something that you would expect unless it was something that the guy had done a lot, almost like a walking version of knock and run when you where a child and went past a neighbours house but AJ doubted that the man would be doing that. Shaking his head AJ didn’t know what to do, he had a couple of ideas but he didn’t know what he could have done.
AJ could have spent time with Max, he could have gone and hung out with Alex Summers because of the fact that since the younger Summers brother had returned he had been able to try and get to have someone to hang out with and talk to, as well as having someone to talk to whose power was not completely stable. Instead he decided to go after the other guy rather than doing the other options, walking around the corner he saw him sitting on the floor.
“Are you ok?” he said.

Ray took another deep breath, he was such and idiot. Thankfully AJ had followed him. Ray really wanted to make friends, but he was afraid of being judged, but now AJ would judge him.
"Hey sorry bout that, I don't know what got into me." now Ray was embarrassed and he could feel his body temperature rising again, he couldn't set the wall on fire twice today.

AJ could tell that there was something up with the guy but at the same time it was something that he couldn’t control, possibly something up with his power, that was something that AJ got more than anyone with the fact that he could cause a lot of damage with his powers if he had lost control of them something that did have the potential of happening a lot but at the same time since he had met Max that had seemed to have stopped.
“It’s fine,” he said like it was nothing. “I am surprised to see you here though,”

AJ was normal he mad Ray feel calm, and that was a wonderful thing, AJ didn't look at Ray funny he didn't even judge Ray and that made him feel good. Ray calmed back down and felt his temperature drop back to room temp.
"Seeing you here was a pleasant surprise, I'm only here temporarily and only as long as the professor wants my kind and I to be here.

AJ nodded at Ray’s words he was surprised to see the other man also but more to the point that he didn’t get a lot of what was going on right now, he had been unable to keep up with what was going on because of the fact that he was around Max but he had been trying to keep up with who was doing what in the school, he supposed that Ray was part of the brotherhood and that was why he was in the school but he couldn’t be sure.
“Charles is a good man,” he said “so are you with the brotherhood?”

It was odd that Ray was so open with AJ, he rarely trusted humans, even mutants. With AJ things felt different, maybe because AJ had known Ray before he became jaded, and if AJ's dad was horrid to Ray, he couldn't imagine what had happened to AJ. "Yeah I'm with the Brotherhood, Magneto was the first person after I lost you and my mother who made me feel normal, and who didn't judge me by my appearance, and Magneto made me proud of who I am." Ray hoped AJ wouldn't judge him for the way he looked up to Magneto, but Ray could understand why AJ would say Charles was a great man, Charles was another person who didn't judge Ray, but he wasn't the same as Magneto.

AJ nodded at Ray’s words he could understand that if it hadn’t been for the fact that he had been more wanting to protect his little sister then he might have been part of the brotherhood himself but he had decided to go to the X men instead because of the fact that he didn’t want to have his little sister to be alone so he had tried anything that he could to keep her safe which was why he had joined the x men rather than the brotherhood at the time.
“So long as you are in a place that you are happy is what matters.” He said “would you have joined the brotherhood if you had met the x men first out of interest?”

AJ understood Ray and he didn't judge, AJ was having a normal conversation with Ray, it had been so long since he'd felt normal with someone his age. For the first time in years Ray was smiling.
Ray knew the answer to AJ's question, he knew that the reason he was in the brotherhood was that he trusted Magneto, and they didn't stare at him, they either left him alone or treated him like an acquaintance, Ray had no friends with them, he wasn't overly violent or evil, he was there out of loyalty to Magneto. "Charles treats me the same as Magneto does and I'm sure if I had met him first I would have joined him, and truly if Magneto wasn't a father to me, you and the kindness I've received here would be good incentive to stay."

As Ray spoke AJ got where the guy was coming from but at the same time he didn’t because of the fact that he didn’t know why Magneto who didn’t seem to be that good of a guy would be someone that Ray had held in such a regard, at the same time it was something that he had not wanted to argue with the other mutant about but at the same time he wasn’t going to make it look like it was nothing he would leave it for now and come back to it later if he had to do so.
Also he didn’t want to put down the man that had done Ray some good. “I am glad to see you have somewhere you feel you belong,” he said.

Ray could tell that AJ didn't quite get where he was Coming from, but why should he, he'd never met Magneto. Ray didn't like prejudices, and that was exactly what this sounded like, it was a prejudice against a great man who had not always took the straight and narrow path.
Ray clenched his fists and took a few deep breaths, he couldn't let this upset him AJ was his first chance at a real friend. AJ also was glad Ray found a place he belonged, but in truth the brotherhood was just a place Ray wasn't bothered for who he was, it was a place where he could exist. "So how have you been?"

AJ was confused by Ray clenching his fists like he had been angry AJ hadn’t said anything that he would have thought would have offended the other man, he had just meant that he had wanted the other man to be where he thought that he would have belonged, whether that be with mutants or humans AJ didn’t really care, he had thought that Ray would have joined the brotherhood because of the sense of belonging in a group of mutants and somewhere that he didn’t have to worry about how he looked, the same thing could have been said for the x mansion yet the man had seemed to have taken offence to the words that AJ had said for some reason.
“I have been ok, I live here with my sister.” He said “and I kind of have a girlfriend but she hasn’t had the easiest life.”
