When Cassie awoke that morning in the Mansion she had immediately felt the urge to leave, forgetting she looked terrible and was in her pajamas. She had been seriously pondering this choice until her roomie, Chase, a sweet, gay aerokinetically gifted mutant scared her back to reality, whispering softly in her ear. He said the bathroom was hers now and dressed, dropping his towel in front of her. They weren't uncomfortable with each other, Cassie's abilities only serving to strengthen the bond that formed between them from the start. As she showered she heard the door close and she sighed in relief, involuntarily rolling her eyes. She loved the kid but he could be a handful, that was sure. It was a half-hour later that Cassie found herself in front of the mirrors on the inside of the doors that led to their walk-in closet. She chose to wear a pair leather jeans, stiletto boots and a loose, airy silk blouse. With one last look in the mirror she'd play with her bangs slightly, tossing her wealth of chocolate brown ringlets over her shoulder before exiting the dorm.
Hopping into her blue Mazda ACX, the car she bought just a few days ago, she would find herself grinning uncontrollably as she backed out of the parking space and drove through the entrance formed by the sliding automatic gates. They would close after her and if you payed close enough attention you'd see the small sparks that ran up the metal posts of the fence and gates.
Knowing that she'd better be prepared for the city full of emotions she turned off her empathy completely, though she hated to do so. It felt like loosing a sixth sense and she'd grown as fond of it as she had with her other five senses. The city could be great for an empath if only they could form groups of happy people around them every time they went out but this was obviously impractical and therefore most higher-level users blocked or shut off their abilities to prevent from over-load and shock. So though she missed the extra sensory skill she preferred being cut-off to being driven insane. What with all the anger, pain and other emotions in the city she could augment the powers of her whole team as well as herself for awhile.
After an hour of traffic she found a parking space in front of the gianormous Toys-R-Us store in Times Square. She could do some serious damage on her credit cards their, shopping for the kids at the at the shelter she volunteered at but stopped herself, noting that she should come back another time when she had help taking it out to the car. Walking down street, her big black bag hung from her inner-elbow as she texted, looking every bit the teenager she still was. It wasn't until that she bumped into a man with odd eyes that she realized she hadn't been paying attention. She though had no room to judge his eyes when her her bright, light purple irises seemed all the more brighter against the black of her pants and the brown of her eyes. "I'm so sorry sir. I didn't see you." She stammered through this apology before blushing and shutting up, hoping that the fellow mutant wouldn't be too mad.
