Five!…Four!…Three!…Two!…ONE!...Happy New Year!!!
Their cheers echoed across the mansion. While most of the students were off today and returned home. The many that stayed at the mansion decided to band together and have their own New Year party. Of course naturally Derek decided to spend this New Year, like last New Year, alone at his small shed like home in the gardens. He wasn’t really offended that he didn’t get invited. They most likely didn’t invite him because they thought he was visiting his relatives around this time. His appearance was somewhat scarce after Christmas.
This was due to the fact the most of the plants in the garden are dead around that time in the year and there really wasn’t much he could do about it. Besides, the Professor did allow him to have the week after Christmas free to himself. Derek room wasn’t something to be awed about. But at least it was cozy. Derek’s room didn’t have a bed on it. Only a few chairs, a table, and a cabin. He didn’t even have a TV. But, then again Derek preferred it that way.
Derek sat down and opened a book and began to read. He needed something to do every night when he was up. To him tonight is no different from any other night.

John also hadn't been invited to the party. He went anyway. Obviously there was a pattern here: He also hadn't been invited to the big wedding party for Nightcrawler and his girl. Pyro didn't really give a shit but while he had kept his distance from the wedding party, he decided to have some fun this time. It was New Year's Eve after all.
So he showed up at the student's party anyway, drank a lot, flirted with several girls and provoked about as many guys. Ultimately he got thrown out - and was too drunk to care. Smoking and with a bottle of beer in his hand, he stumbled through the park and ended up at the Japanese Garden, near Derek's cabin. He probably would have simply passed by it if he hadn't noticed the light through the window.
The fire mutant smiled, approached the door and knocked loudly several times. "Happy New Year, Happy New Year!" he shouted. "Anybody home?"

Derek was about to finish the twelfth chapter. He was so focused on the story that he almost fell of his seat when someone knocked on his door. Judging by the sound and frequency of the knock it was most likely some drunken student who stumbled into the garden by accident or by prank. Derek got up slowly not paying mind to the constant knocking on his door. Derek opened the door and to his surprise was Pyro.
“What on earth are you doing here?” Derek said in shock. Shouldn’t he be setting some fireworks off on accident or something by now? Derek moved aside to let him in the cabin. “Drinking over at the mansion? Is that even possible?” Derek said. The idea of the goody goodies drink was preposterous. Derek then pulled out a char for Pyro to sit on.

"Ha!" Pyro smirked. "Course it is. I raided the teachers' secret stash of beer..." The fire mutant entered the cabin and looked around interested. "Not terribly effective to get drunk... but if one drinks enough of it..." He laughed and and produced another bottle. "Want one?"
Then he continued to check the cabin out, noticed the book on the bed. "What the fuck are you doing here all by yourself reading on a night like this, huh?" He turned to Derek, his speech slightly slurred. "It's New Year's Eve, man. A new year, maybe our last..." He grinned drunkenly. "You know... because of Apocalypse and stuff, hehe." Pyro took a big sip out of his bottle, then focused on Derek who still seemed a bit surprised about his visitor.

Oh? He wasn’t drunk enough to impair his senses. “No thank you, alcohol impairs my ability to suppress my powers.” Derek said calmly. Derek took a deep breath. It would be safe to say that this New Year was more interesting than the rest. Derek couldn’t tell Pyro was a pessimist or an optimist from his last comments.
“I don’t celebrate New Year because it is no different from any other day of the year. That is why I am reading,” he replied. Besides that, Derek never did well in large crowds mostly because of the idea that he could accidently cause everyone around him to have heavy fevers or worse.
“Is there anywhere I can take you where you won’t accidently set something or someone on fire?” Derek asked. Derek was never good with taking care of drunken people even if they were a little drunk. Last time he took care of a drunken person they accidently locked themselves in the bathroom with the lights off. Now that was hell trying to get them out

"Oh?" Pyro said in reaction to Derek's explanation. "Well... that sucks." For a moment he looked serious, then he smirked again. "Too bad for you, more for me!" He laughed, put the bottle on a little desk to open it later when he had finished with the current one. The place looked all in all rather spartan, he found.
"You are quite the party animal", he commented the Asian's next words. "Clearly you need to get out more! Besides...", he frowned, "...Asians celebrate New Year's as well." He knew, he grew up close enough. "Chinese New Year or something, right?" Though, this was a different date, he dimly remembered.
"Nah, I'm good!" Pyro let himself fall on Derek's bed and leaned his back at the wall, looking at him. "Besides...", he raised his index finger, "...I never set anything on fire accidentally." He took another big sip out of his bottle. "Unfortunately", he added, again in a bit of a more solemn tone. Because he wasn't able to create fire, he had to get his fucking zippo out to start one. That never happened accidentally. "So...", he looked at Derek expectantly, "...what do you wanna do to celebrate? Because if you never celebrated New Year's Eve, then it's about fucking time that you do!"

Derek was somewhat happy that Pyro “dropped by”. Despite the fact that he was doing everything Derek dare not do. “Yes, Asians do celebrate New Year but that won’t be until February.” Did Derek really answer Pyro’s question?! It’s not like he would remember that tomorrow morning when the hang over kicks in.
“Errm, I’m not sure about celebrating this New Year. You of all people should know I don’t do well in crowds. The last thing I need is a mansion full students hurling over not because that had one too many but they happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.” Derek explained. Derek’s eyes kept looking at the bottle. Oh how alcohol messes with one’s mind. Derek then looked back at Pyro.
“I better bring you back in the mansion. The plain like this shed isn’t the greatest place to spend a holiday when you’re celebrating it.” Derek explained opening a cabinet full of his clothing. He quickly up on a few jackets and opened the door. A rush of chilling wind entered the room. Derek just hoped Pyro doesn’t start barfing on the floor. That was the last thing he needed. “Here. I’ll help you to the mansion.” Derek said as he raised one his right hand to help pull his drunk friend up.

"Riiight, February..." Pyro nodded. "I knew that..." Then he was looking attentively at Derek talking, while bringing himself in a more comfortable position on the bed. Finally he smiled. "Clearly you worry too much." He lifted his index finger up. "As long as you don't drink... alcohol, I mean... as long as you don't drink alcohol, you don't have to worry. Right? No worries. Of course, celebrating without alcohol is only half the fun...", he made a funny face, "...or rather a quarter the fun... but for someone who NEVER celebrates, it's a start!" Clearly this guy needed to lighten up and that - lightening up - was Pyro's speciality.
Rather strangely the conclusion that Derek drew out of all this, was, that he should bring him back to the mansion. Pyro put the bottle to his lips and emptied it while he watched Derek handle his clothes and then open the door. Conveniently the fire mutant was pretty resistant against cold but he saw Derek shiver a bit. before he offered him his hand to get him up from the bed. Pyro looked at it for a moment, then nodded. "Okay...", he said, grabbed the hand - but instead of letting himself be pulled up, he actually pulled with all his force to get Derek down on the bed. He had no intention whatsoever to just go back to the mansion and call it a night. None whatsoever!

Derek gave a sigh. Alcohol, never will Derek ever touch the stuff. “Sorry, but I don’t do celebrations,” here said still standing at the door. Derek wondered if Pyro will even remember to night. It was somewhat contradictory to for people to celebrate a holiday when they probably won’t even remember it the next day. Such things he still can’t get his mind around. As Derek shifted his weight slowly to pull Pryo off the bed, he was met with a stronger opposing force. Before Derek could react, he was pulled onto the bed.
What in the world is going on?! Derek was freaking out. Never any real unexpected situations happen to Derek. In the past he was always calm, always in control of his surroundings. “W-what are you doing?!” Derek said in a more lively voice than normal. “You had one to many drinks didn’t you!” Derek said trying to recover from what just happened.
(bleh not the greatest but hey. It happens every now and then)

John sighed. "We have to work on that." A life without party was like... a life without fire! Yes! A sad, depressing life. Nobody deserved to live a life with out partys. While Derek prepared to move him back to the mansion, Pyro had no intention to let him do that.
When Derek offered his hand to help him up, he pulled him down to him on the bed, with a smirk that became a wide grin when Derek, slightly panicked, started to complain. John hadn't really cared where exactly the other mutant fell, and he landed half on the bed and half on him. Derek's face was simply priceless, and Pyro couldn't help but laugh. "Nope, if anything I had a few too few drinks", he then explained and shifted his weight a bit, so Derek was lying next to him and not half on him anymore. Their heads were pretty close though, and Derek could probably smell the alcohol now.
"So, what are we doing? Going back to the mansion clearly is no option", Pyro declared. "I won't leave you alone with your boring book, no way. Friends don't do such things." He glanced at the full beer bottle on the desk nearby, clearly contemplating to get it.

“If you haven’t notices, I am not exactly life friendly,” Derek said lying on the bed. Thinking back, Derek did notice that his life was indeed boring. Nothing ever exciting ever happened considering he lived in a mansion fully of “exciting” people. The smell of alcohol from Pyro’s breathe sure was heavy for a person who had too few drinks. Lying on the bed, Derek was getting pretty tired. But, he knew he couldn’t go to sleep.
Derek was a bit surprised that Pyro considered Derek a friend. Actually, he was more surprised he was considered a friend by a person. Most of the time, he considered everyone associates and they to him. What to do? Derek really hap no idea what people do during new year’s accept drinking, making out, and drinking some more. Derek took notice of Pyro attention to his drink on the desk. Derek got up and picked up the drink. “There to stop you from drinking anymore I placed a virus in it. Unless you want to wake up tomorrow feeling deathly sick I suggest you don’t drink this,” he bluffed. Like Derek had that much control as to choosing what kind of virus to put in a drink. But, Pyro didn’t know that. Besides he was semi drunk, Derek could say the sky was purple and he would agree. Or so Derek believed.
Derek didn’t like drinking or people drinking. Reminded him of some buried past. “As a friend, it is my job that you don’t die of intoxication,” he said in a dull tone once again. “However, if you do want to go the mansion and I don’t want you to stay in this shed made room, then why don’t we head to the city? I hear New Years there was supposed to be exhilarating.” There Derek went again, picking a line out of the News Paper. Derek had a feeling that he would regret those words. But, it was too late now.

"Actually...", Pyro lifted his index fingers, "...I had noticed as much. It's a condition that needs to be changed", he declared, slightly slurring, looking at the other boy lying next to him. "What about girls...? You're interested in girls, right?" He stopped, smirked. "Or you prefer guys?" He shrugged. "Hey, everybody as he likes, right?" Sure, John was drunk, and in this condition he was pretty easy going with everything.
So when Derek got up and pretended to 'infect' his beer bottle, he only laughed. "I have a feeling I'll wake up feeling sick anyways... but you know what?" Again the index finger. "I don't fucking care. Life is short, too short not to party!" But when the other mutant worried about him dying of intoxication, he vigorously shook his head. "I'm not that easy to kill, you know... this... this bit of beer... this is nothing! Wait til we do shots...", again he smirked, obviously thinking of another occasion where that had happened.
But, then finally, a good idea from Derek. A really, really good idea! "Really? You would do that? Go into the city? Wow...." This seemed like a suprising turn of events. "Cool! Where do we go?" He sounded pretty excited now. "You have to drive, though...", he managed to get up from the bed, slightly tipsy, "...yeah, better. We can steal Cyclops' car...", he suggested, obviously totally seriousl

Girls? Derek hadn’t really thought of it much up untill now. He was so focused surpressing his ability he never focuses on emotions such as love. He focused so much on keeping everyting around him living that he himself seemed dead. Pyro had a point, he needed to start living himself. “Shots? I don’t think that is necessary,” Derek said praying that he wouldn’t have to drag him back to the mansion in the middle of the night.
“Yes, I suppose going city would seem appropriate for today I suppose,” he said with a hint of worry. It wasn’t untill Pryo suggested stealing Cyclops’ car that Derek began to really worry about going to the city. Stealing Cyclops’ car? That would most likely be a one way ticket out of the mansion. Still, a part of him found it thrilling. Derek would mostlikely regret saying the words, but it was to late. Before he could examine more into the conciquence of his actions, Derek said “Alright, let’s do it.”
What was he saying! Did he just agree to Pyro’s idea? If this is day one of this new year, then this new year will be quite interesting.

Had he been less drunk, he'd probably have thought about the fact that Derek didn't say anything to his question about girls (or guys), maybe even drawn some wrong conclusions. But in his present condition, the topic vanished as fast out of his brain as it had come. At Derek's reply about shots, he snorted. "Necessary, necessary, nothing is necessary. Shots are fun. Fun is what you need more of. Urgently!" For him, this made a lot of sense.
The Asian seemed initally a bit taken aback by the idea of stealing Cyclops' car, even though it was a time-honored tradition to steal vehicles from Scott. Logan did it all the time. But Derek couldn't know that, he was new here. But contrary to his skeptical facial expression, he actually agreed to the plan. Pyro lifted an eyebrow in surprise but hey, who was he to complain if the result was the right one?
Up from the bed, he approached the other mutant. "Derek, my man...", he lay an arm around the Asian shoulders, "... this will be a night to remember!"

“Urgency you say?” Derek just sighed. Aslong as he survives tonight then he would be satisfied. “I sure hope not,” he said in a worried tone. He then opened the door and exited the shed. Aslong as Pyro closed the door all the way, he did not need to lock it. Who would break into his room anyway. It seemed like to much work for just a few books anywho. He continued his way through the still garden. Still, the sound of partying at the mansion could be heard. But, it wasn’t as bad. Most of the younger students were probably going to bed while the older ones would follow in an hour or so.
Derek then looked up at the stars. It was indeed a clear night to night. He could see the stars clearly regardless of the so called light pollution from the city near by. He then turned to Pyro. “Well then lead the way,” Derek didn’t really know where the garadge was. It was the few sections of the mansion he did not go near. When he wanted to go to the city, he would just walk, which took a whiles. But, Derek neverminded. Who would dare attack the manipulator of sickness and death?
